Welcome to The Alexander Estate

From the story behind the estate to the experiences within it, discover what makes The Alexander Estate unique.

Nestled between mountains, vineyards, and the sea, The Alexander Estate is not simply a destination, but a home away from home. That was always the goal.

Our story begins in the 1960’s when Alexander Moir, a Capetonian boilermaker, invested his retirement savings into Good Hope Farm. With no farming background, he built a working homestead through persistence and practicality, raising his family on the land and creating something that would outlast him.

Years later, financial pressure forced him to sell. The farm changed hands, but not meaning. The land continued to evolve, eventually becoming a recognised vineyard, while the story of what had been built there stayed within the family.

Decades on, that story came full circle. After building his own career, Alexander’s grandson, Stephen Newton, returned to buy back the original Manor House. What followed was not a restoration of the past, but a considered redevelopment, one that respected what came before, while building something entirely new.

Today, The Alexander Estate is designed to be experienced as a whole, where no part of the stay feels disconnected from another.

The setting, the pace, the experiences, and the spaces themselves are all intended to work together naturally.

A typical day might begin with a walk through the vineyards or a quiet morning overlooking the mountains. By midday, you can settle into the Estate at your own pace, whether that’s time spent at Echo Dam, a guided wine tasting, or a picnic set up among the vines.

Afternoons shift into something more social. High tea in the lounge, accompanied by live piano, or a tasting paired with oysters, guided by our sommelier. Evenings are built around the setting; sunset swims, cocktails, and time at the table that isn’t rushed.

Flowing through all of this is our Alexander Vineyards wine.

What began as part of the land’s earlier transformation has been brought back into the Estate with a clear focus. From reclaimed legacy to thoughtful innovation, Alexander Vineyards is shaped by the terroir of the region and a hands-on approach to winemaking. It’s not an add-on to the experience, it’s central to it.

You don’t just encounter the wine in one setting. It moves with you, through tastings, pairings, and the rhythm of the day, connecting each part of the Estate back to the land it sits on.

That’s what defines The Alexander Estate. Not one feature, but the way everything works together. The stay, the setting, the experiences, and the vineyards are all part of the same idea: to create a place that feels complete.

The Alexander Estate was never intended to be somewhere to visit, it was built to return to.
